Quick Website Update

July 2, 2010

Today I finally got round to changing a few links and things on my website. I originally built it when I first thought about getting into selling things a couple of years ago and what I do has changed completely since then. (I also know a hell of a lot more about building a website now!)

I started off doing textile art pieces and using some other girls name (who’s Jenny Foreman?!) but then the first chicken was born and these proved to be much more popular than the art pieces. As in, they actually sold!

So then I became Jenny’s Textiles, a name that still insists on stubbornly hanging around in certain corners of the internet O_o I was never entirely happy about this name as it made me feel limited in what I could make and I instantly found myself wanting to make non-textile based things!

About a year ago I relaunched as Junky Chicken and so it really has taken me far too long to find the time to sort my website out a bit. A complete rebuild will hopefully be starting soon but it probably won’t be until after our tiny human has made their entrance into the world. Until then, this will  have to do! If you’d like to look around a more impressive website though you can always have a look at the one that I built for the husband! Hopefully I will be as pleased with my own site someday soon!

Make Your Own Fonts

January 24, 2010

Yesterday was ‘National Handwriting Day’ over in the USA, and I thought that I would let that inspire today’s blog post.

For those of you who haven’t yet seen the website that I made for my husband, go and check it out now! While you’re there, make sure you take an extra close look at the font that I used, as we made that font using Joe’s own handwriting! It’s something that I’ve wanted to do for a long time and so when I read about a fantastic site that allows you to make fonts from your own handwriting for FREE, I had to have a go. (Unfortunately, I have just found out (when going to find the link) that they are no longer offering this for free as they are now out of beta 😦 so apologies for getting you all excited!)

Firstly, we had to print out a chart for Joe to fill out with upper case letters, lower case letters, numbers and some punctuation and things. When this was complete we scanned it in, tidied it up a bit and then uploaded it to the site. Within seconds the site had turned it into a font… AMAZING!

Now I’m off to cry quietly to myself as I’ve missed the chance to make a font with my own handwriting!

New Website For Joe Hurry Creations

November 10, 2009

I know that it’s been a while since I last blogged, but now I’m back and this post is about one of the many things that I have been up to. I have finally finished making Joe’s website and it is now online for all to see.

I’m so pleased with how it has all turned out and we are especially pleased with the font. We made it using Joe’s own handwriting! I will blog about how we did that tomorrow, so you will have to come back if you’d like to see how it was done!

Making the gallery for the site was the hardest and most time consuming part, mostly due to the huge number of drawings that Joe has done! There were so many links to put in, thumbnails to make and details to add but I eventually managed to complete it. No more gallery building for me… until more drawings are drawn that is.

Every image in the gallery has details for the inspiration and the location in which the drawing was conceived. These may not be entirely true facts but they are definitely worth reading. Please do. I lost the skin on my fingers from typing it all out. It’s the least you can do.

Birthday Gifts

September 27, 2009

I got some great presents for my birthday the other day and so I decided to blog about a few of them 🙂

This voucher was one of the gifts from my wonderful husband. Soon it will become a pile of new clothes!

Next gift is a bag made by my sister. It isn’t actually this bag… Mine has a picture of candyfloss on it, but it’s as awesome as this one, if not more so! Her Ebay shop is empty at the moment but keep an eye on it to see some more of her tote bags. She is also a photographer so go and have a look at her site to see what else she does 🙂

I also got this brilliant book which is full of patterns for everything I need for my own knitted farm! I can’t wait to get started on knitting this!

This print from Leelu is amazing and was a complete surprise. In case it’s too small to read here, the text says “She floated asleep through the darkening skies weaving in between stars to the moon she flies…” All her work is brilliant so go and check out her site!

More Tattoos

September 2, 2009

We spent the bank holiday weekend in Sussex again and decided that while we were there we should get drawn on some more.

This is my wedding tattoo. I knew I wanted some kind of music related tattoo and I also liked the idea of having something to commemorate our wedding, so I realised that it would be a pretty cool idea to use one of the songs that we had played during the service. The song is ‘The Luckiest’ by Ben Folds. My original idea was to use a whole line of the song but I ended up deciding to use just the first bar of the song as I liked that it would then involve the treble clef and the time signature and things. I also love that the song is to be played ‘freely’.

I also got 528 tattooed above my ankle. 528 Hz is the frequency of love, so Joe and I both got it tattooed and we each have it written in each others handwriting. This makes it especially cool and we have Victoria to thank for that idea! You can find out more about 528 Hz at this website.

Joe also got another tattoo but you will have to go and check out his blog to find out what he got 🙂
